The setter of the Reales de La Vega, Gelvis Solano, was awarded this Monday as the “Most Valuable Player” of the 2023 season of the LNB Super League, in a ceremony held at the Hard Rock Café restaurant in the capital.
Solano was the key piece for the Reales de La Vega to finish in the first position of the Regular Series (10-4), with averages of 18.3 in scoring, 5.8 assists and 2.2 steals. He also excelled with 39 percent on 3-pointers and 78 percent on free throws.
In each of these departments, the member of the National Team was in the Top-5. He was also in the top-10 in field goals (47%) and minutes played per game (30.6). He played in each of the Vegans’ 14 games.
Of the 96 votes cast by journalists who cover the first division circuit, Solano got 30 preferences. He was ahead of Jassel Pérez (28), of the Titans and Jayson Valdez (13), of the Lions, among others.
In earning the recognition, Solano became the first Royals player to win the MVP award since Juan Coronado received it in the 2011 season.
Ferreiras and Colón in two categories
Without much opposition, Luismal Ferreiras received the “Rookie of the Year” and “Defensive Player of the Year” awards. Ferreiras was second in rebounding with 10.4 and also excelled with 13.5 shooting on 55 percent from the field and 1.1 blocks in 14 games.
As for Colón, the Lions player achieved the distinctions of “Best Sixth Man” and “Most Progressed Player”. The point guard was second on his team with 13.4 points and also shot 40 percent of triples, the fourth best in the LNB. He also played 14 games.

Julio Duquela, from the Lions, won the “Manager of the Year” award, in a close vote in which he beat out Joel Ramírez (31), from the Titans, and Daniel Maffei (28), from the Royals. Duquela, whose team had only one reinforcement, had a 9-5 record in the preliminary phase.

The LNB Super League also revealed its ideal offensive five, highlighting Gelvis Solano (Royals), Jassel Pérez (Titans), Jaison Valdez (Leones), Luismal Ferreiras (Indios) and Raphiael Putney (Royals). On defense, Anyeuri Castillo (Soles) was left with Jaison, Jassel, Luismal and Putney.

In the activity, the National Basketball League also elevated promoters Pedro Leandro Rodríguez, Osvaldo Rodríguez Suncar, Stanley Javier and Fausto Warden, in addition to former players Richard Ortega, Joel Ramírez and Reggie Charles as “LNB Legends”.
