GeForce Now: Nividia unveils a subscription to play streaming on an RTX 3080

Nvidia today introduced a new subscription for GeForce Now, its streaming gaming service. This offer is marketed at 99 euros for six months. Its main asset: making you play on servers equipped with the overpowering GeForce RTX 3080, thus unlocking a new visual quality: Quad HD + at 120 images per second. Another exclusivity of this subscription: play in 4K in HDR on the Shield TV.

A year and a half ago, Nvidia presented GeForce Now, a streaming game service unlike any other. It provides the ability to remotely play games that you own. If you bought on Steam, GOG or theEpic Game Store one of the compatible titles, you can launch it in a virtual machine and play it remotely. So you can play an AAA game on a tablet, smartphone, Chromebook, or any device with a web browser.

Indeed, Nividia announces that it has installed RTX 3080 in some of its dedicated GeForce Now servers. These are not GeForces identical to those you find on the market, but versions customized to work in supercomputers. Servers called ” SuperPod “. Several centers will be installed around the world (there will be one in Paris, of course) in order to guarantee reduced latency. According to Nvidia, the average latency is 56 ms for games played in streaming on an RTX 3080, against 81 ms currently. Remember that current servers are equipped with GeForce RTX 2080.

There are several advantages to integrating these cards into GeForce Now servers. First, upgrading to the RTX 3080 opens the door to a new definition. No more Full HD at 60 frames per second. If your connection and your equipment allow it, the maximum definition of GeForce Now increases to Quad HD (1440p) to 120 frames per second. Whether on PC or Mac, since Safari is now compatible, in addition to some Windows browsers. To enjoy GeForce Now with the RTX 3080, you need to access a new formula marketed at 99 euros, versus 49 euros for the current subscription (price which had been revised upwards at the beginning of the year). This means that you will have to pay double to be able to enjoy the good performance promised by Nvidia. It will obviously not be the only one. First, RTX 3080 subscribers will be the only ones to access servers equipped with these cards. Then the maximum duration of the game changes to 8 hours instead of 6 hours.
