A dramatic scene unfolded in Gaza City as three Israeli hostages were handed over to the Red Cross in a crowded square, marking a significant development in the current ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Chaotic Transfer Amidst Armed Militiamen
According to eyewitnesses, the hostages were transferred in a chaotic scene in Saraya Square, western Gaza City, where a crowd of Palestinians had gathered to witness the historic event. Hamas fighters were present, wearing their distinctive green headbands and armed with guns.
Crowd Cheers as Hostages Released
The crowd, which had been chanting “God is greatest” in Arabic, erupted in cheers and applause as the hostages, Romi Gonen, Emily Damari, and Doron Steinbrecher, were released. The three women were the first to be freed under the ceasefire agreement.
ICRC Staff Facilitate Transfer
