Gaviria, happy with Movistar’s work: “They trust me”

Fernando Gaviria was very close in at second stage of the Vuelta a San Juan celebrating his first victory in the Movistar Team, a team that he praised for its work and confidence despite always standing out in other fields. In the end, Fabio Jakobsen beat him in the sprint, but according to the Colombian rider the sensations are good.

“It was a tricky sprint, with those two corners in the last kilometer and a half, but yesterday it was clearly more tangled in the finish than today, where things went more orderly. We took the final stretch in the position we thought was convenient, but Jakobsen was a bit ahead of us and we ran out of road. Nothing to regret; he won a very strong runner”, highlighted the 28-year-old runner.

One of the best sprinters in the world wants to recover his level this year and for now it looks like he will continue fighting with the greatest. Gaviria assured that the Movistar Team is making a great effort and that despite not having a solid train to launch, the strategy of the Spanish squad is to put riders at the head of the peloton to control any type of escape, In this second stage the plan was fulfilled.

“Happy with the performance of the team; the change they have made for me since I arrived, betting on helping me in the sprints despite being a traditionally climbing team, and the work in these two days. We have shown that we are ready to dispute, that we are not afraid -despite not having a ‘train’ as solid as others– to make riders available at the head of the peloton to control the escape. This is important to me, because I feel that they are trusting in my work; It motivates me to give my all to fight for victories, and today it was close”, said one of the most winning Colombian cyclists.
