Gautam Gambhir is making a comeback with Kolkata Knight Riders. Team KKR has appointed Gautam Gambhir as its mentor for IPL 2024. Kolkata Knight Riders have won the trophy only twice in the IPL so far and both times their team captain was Gautam Gambhir. Gautam Gambhir’s most successful team in the IPL was the Kolkata Knight Riders. He captained this team for many years and made KKR champions twice by winning the IPL 2012 and IPL 2014 titles.
This former Indian cricket team batsman played cricket for Kolkata Knight Riders from IPL 2011 to IPL 2017 but returned to the Delhi team in IPL 2018 after which he also retired from IPL. Now Gautam Gambhir will remain as a mentor to the IPL team. Lucknow Super Giants, the new team in IPL 2022, started his career with Gautam Gambhir but could not last long. Led by Gautam Gambhir, the Lucknow team was ranked 3rd in the points table of IPL 2022 while this team also ended its league phase at 3rd position in IPL 2023.
However, Gujarat Titans, another new team that entered the IPL along with Lucknow, won the IPL 2022 under the leadership of Ashish Nehra and had reached the finals in 2023 as well, but the team from Lucknow could not reach the finals even once. Now Gautam Gambhir has left Lucknow and joined his old and most successful team Kolkata Knight Riders.
