Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir took to social media to praise Rohit Sharma after he announced his retirement from Test cricket.
Gambhir’s post on X came just hours after Sharma’s surprise announcement. “A master, a leader & a gem! #RohitSharma,” Gambhir wrote, sharing a photo.
A Surprising Retirement
Sharma’s decision to retire at 38 shocked the cricket world. He had a poor run in his last two Test series, scoring just 122 runs. This poor form is believed to be a major reason behind his retirement.
Sharma took over as India’s Test captain in 2022. Under his leadership, India played 24 Test matches, winning 12 and losing 9. Their win percentage was 50.
A Legacy of Leadership
Gambhir’s praise for Sharma is significant, given recent rumors of tension between them. Earlier this week, Gambhir denied these rumors at the ABP India at 2047 Summit. “It’s just people on YouTube channels or self-proclaimed experts trying to generate TRP,” he said.
Gambhir added, “We won the Champions Trophy just two months ago. Imagine if we hadn’t won – the questions you would have asked me then.”
Sharma’s retirement marks the end of an era for Indian cricket. His leadership and batting skills will be deeply missed.
