Gary Centeno Suspended from ‘The Island’ for Smuggling Cigarettes, Lighter

Discipline is a core component of the competition on ‘La Isla: Desafío Extremo,’ alongside the demanding physical trials and survival instincts. Gary Centeno, a member of the Panthers team, violated this fundamental rule and has been suspended from competing for two days.

The decision was announced by host Héctor Suárez Gomis. Centeno, a Costa Rican actor, was given an opportunity to confess his error but admitted he was unaware of the transgression, asking for clarification.

“‘La Isla’ knows absolutely everything,” Suárez Gomis stated. “We found prohibited items among your belongings, and the rules here are sacred.” The items in question were a pack of cigarettes and a lighter.

“For this reason, you will receive a sanction: you will not be able to compete for two days,” the host added. Gary Centeno expressed regret over his mistake as the other contestants watched, visibly perplexed.

The actor accepted the penalty, noting, “It’s ironic, because it’s something that primarily affects me,” referring to his smoking habit. Suárez Gomis emphasized that the discovered items are only forbidden within ‘La Isla,’ not in everyday life. He concluded, “Here, every mistake, whether within or outside the challenges, comes at a high price.”

The Panthers team must now navigate two days of challenges with one fewer member. Centeno’s punishment comes just before nominations day, making his inclusion on the list of potential eliminations highly probable.

In other news from the reality series, Mexican actress Zoraida Gómez was the first participant eliminated from ‘La Isla: Desafío Extremo’ this season. The show’s second season was filmed in the Dominican Republic.

Gómez, from the Eagles team, lost the final challenge on Monday to José María Galeano of the Sharks. The task involved assembling a large puzzle forming a burning flame. Galeano, a Spanish actor, finished the puzzle first in a close race.

Galeano embraced his team in relief, while Gómez accepted her fate with gestures of lament. “Even though it was a short time, I feel it was very intense,” Gómez said in her farewell. “That ‘Playa Baja’ will never be forgotten, much less my team, my captain, and the people I had the opportunity to meet.”

The teams for ‘La Isla: Desafío Extremo’ are currently structured as follows:
* Sharks: José María, Helen, Ximena, Fernanda, Martín, Rodrigo
* Panthers: Elizabeth, Christian, Gary, Estefanía, Nievelis, Roberto
* Eagles: Mauricio, Julieta, Jason, Zoraida (eliminated), Moi, Paulina

‘La Isla: Desafío Extremo’ airs Monday through Friday and Sunday at 7 PM/6c on Telemundo. Episodes are also available simultaneously on its official app and through the streaming service Peacock.
