Alejandro Garnacho sat beside Ruben Amorim at the press conference for Manchester United’s UEFA Europa League second-leg clash against Athletic Bilbao. Garnacho opened up about the challenges he faced with Amorim’s arrival mid-season. “It’s tough when a new coach comes in and changes everything. I just work hard every day and try to show him I want to play.”
Garnacho’s focus is on improving daily. “We all struggle when there’s a change like that. We just have to follow the rules and keep getting better,” he said, adding that the team is also on an upward trend.
The conversation turned to Garnacho’s goal tally, just one shy of Cristiano Ronaldo’s total in his first three seasons at Manchester United. Ronaldo scored 27 goals in 137 games; Garnacho has 26 in 140. “I’m not worried about numbers,” Garnacho said. “The game was different back then. We’re training hard, and I’m just trying to stay in the squad.”
Garnacho highlighted the team’s intense training sessions, particularly with Rasmus Hojlund and other forwards. “We need to work hard to stay in the team. If I train well, I’ll be ready for the games,” he explained.
Despite Manchester United’s struggles in the Premier League, Garnacho remains optimistic about their chances in the Europa League. “We’ve had a tough season in the league,” he admitted. “But the coach said we’ll treat tomorrow’s game like it’s 0-0. If we win the Europa League, we’ll be in the Champions League next season, and that changes everything.
