Filippo Ganna faces a very important season for him and for which he has set some ambitious goals. The Italian gave an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport after achieving his first victory of the season in the Star of Besseges time trial.
However, Ganna himself confesses that he has changed his way of competing in the time trial and that he still has to improve several aspects.you. “This year I’m a bit weaker in the flat areas in the time trial, where I usually make differences. But going up I achieved better values than a year ago, and that’s good. Also, now I’m around 86-87 kilos and I have to arrive at the Giro with 82″.
Ganna also wanted to define what his big goals are for this season, achievements similar to those already achieved by one of his benchmarks, the also Italian Francesco Moser. “My goals for 2022 are Milan-San Remo, Paris-Roubaix, wearing the yellow jersey for the first time on the Tour and breaking the hour record. I think I’m like Francesco Moser in that and I’d be fine, but I’ll never be able to match I love to be. But I will take him as an example and approaching his achievements would already be a great result. In addition, I also aim to win my third World Time Trial in a row.”
Among those achievements, breaking the hour record held by Victor Campenaerts stands out, although Ganna prefers not to think about it yet. “At the moment I am not thinking about the hour record, I am focused on the spring classics. We have not yet chosen a velodrome. If I face the record it will be after the Tour de France, in the summer and in a place with low pressure and where the environmental conditions at sea level are the best”.
