Ganguly Slams Team Selection for England Tour, Backs Shreyas Iyer

Sourav Ganguly isn’t happy with the team selection for the upcoming Test series against England. He’s particularly upset that middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer didn’t make the cut.

Ganguly thinks Iyer deserved a spot in the Test team. He’s been consistent over the past year, performing well under pressure and against short balls. As a former captain, Ganguly knows what it takes to succeed in tough conditions.

In an interview with RevSports, Ganguly said, “Shreyas Iyer has impressed everyone with his performance over the past year. He’s scoring runs even when the team is under pressure and handling challenges like short balls well. I know Test cricket is different, but you can’t ignore his great performances. If I were a selector, I’d definitely give him a chance in this Test series.”

This statement suggests Ganguly isn’t a fan of the selection committee’s decision. The Indian team, led by Ajit Agarkar, didn’t include Iyer, which surprised many cricket fans and experts.

When asked if the young Indian team could win the Test series in England, Ganguly sounded confident. “We can definitely beat England if our batting clicks and Jasprit Bumrah stays fit. We’ve beaten stronger teams like Australia without players like Rohit Sharma. So, this young team can do it too.”

The Indian team for the series includes:

  • Yashasvi Jaiswal
  • Abhimanyu Easwaran
  • KL Rahul
  • Sai Sudharsan
  • Shubman Gill (captain)
  • Karun Nair
  • Rishabh Pant (vice-captain)

  • Ravindra Jadeja
  • Shardul Thakur
  • Washington Sundar
  • Mohammad Siraj
  • Prasidh Krishna
  • Kuldeep Yadav

  • Arshdeep Singh

The Test series schedule is:

  • July 2-6: Edgbaston
  • July 10-14: Lord’s
  • July 23-27: Old Trafford
