Obviously, Samsung isn’t really open to the idea of Galaxy Z Fold 3 owners unlocking their device’s bootloader. To dissuade them, the manufacturer has set up a system that deactivates photo sensors and several other features if you confirm the operation.
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 takes the formula of its predecessors while obviously adding several improvements, starting with support for the S-Pen, a Snapdragon 888 under the hood, better multitasking management and above all, the presence of a 16 MP selfie sensor under the screen. On the back side, Galaxy Z Fold 3 owners can count on a excellent triple photo sensor, consisting of a 12 MP main sensor, 12 MP ultra wide-angle and 12 MP telephoto lens.
Despite these undeniable qualities, some owners of Samsung’s latest foldable smartphone would be tempted to unlock the bootloader of their device to do what they want with it. Unfortunately for them, Samsung isn’t really open to the idea. As explained by our colleagues from the XDA-Developers site, Samsung has taken steps to prevent the Z Fold 3 bootloader from unlocking.

Indeed, when you are about to launch the operation, a warning from the manufacturer appears : “the camera will be deactivated and your phone or applications may no longer work correctly ”. Yes, you read that right. If you feel like unlocking your Galaxy Z Fold 3, you will have to do without your photo sensors!
For the experiment, XDA-Developers tried the thing and indeed, the photo application quite simply stops working, revealing a black screen. As you can imagine, the facial recognition used to unlock the smartphone screen is also deactivated at the same time.
You can also say goodbye to all applications that operate the camera like Instagram, Snapchat or TikTok. The operation of Samsung Know and Samsung Pay is also suspended. The only way to find all the features of the smartphone from backtrack and lock the bootloader again. Notice to handymen, if you have a Galaxy Z Fold 3, it would be better to avoid unlocking your smartphone otherwise you will find it with a door stopper at 1799 €.
