The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 are not known to be particularly durable smartphones. To maximize battery life, Samsung has implemented a new feature to limit recharging to 85%.
As you probably know, Samsung took advantage of a new Unpacked conference in early August 2021 to present its new foldable smartphones: the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3. Both devices come with a special overlay, namely One UI 3.1.1.1. This version includes several essential features for the proper functioning of the two smartphones, such as the management of the external screen or interface changes.
However, as revealed by our colleagues from the SamMobile site, Samsung has also integrated a feature passed under the radar until then. Called “Protect Battery” or Battery protection of the language of Molière, it allows as its name suggests to preserve battery life of your Z Fold 3 or Z Flip 3. What does it consist of? It is very simple.
Samsung wants to spare the batteries of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3
To protect the accumulators as much as possible over the years, this feature voluntarily limits recharging to 85% battery. Indeed, many studies have shown that it is not good to recharge a lithium battery to its full capacity, since this puts more pressure on the battery and only decreases the autonomy obtained in a single charge. with time.
We already found a similar feature on Samsung tablets, but also with other competitors like Google, which also blocks the charging of its Pixels at 80%. This is also the case at OnePlus with the Optimized Charging option, which prevents the battery from recharging unnecessarily during the night.
To access this functionality, you will need to go to the “Battery and device maintenance ” from your device settings. Then click on Drums, then on Other battery settings. Several options will be available to you in this menu, such as adaptive battery, enabling fast and wireless charging and at the very end of the page, the functionality Battery protection.
As a reminder, Samsung has also set up a system that deactivates the photo sensors of the Z Fold 3 in the event of the bootloader being unlocked. Without surprise, this measure is already controversial among users who would like to be able to unlock their device. But Samsung obviously does not hear it that way.
