Portuguese women’s volleyball clubs are confronting significant challenges in the CEV Cup, with one team already eliminated and another facing a decisive home match to remain in the European competition.
FC Porto was knocked out of the CEV Women’s Volleyball Cup Round of 16 on Wednesday after a 3-0 defeat to Galatasaray in Turkey. This loss sealed their elimination, following a 3-1 home defeat in the first leg in Portugal.
The Turkish side dominated the second leg, winning all three sets with identical scores of 25-17. FC Porto’s exit means they are out of the second-most important club competition in Europe.
Meanwhile, Sporting Club is set to determine its fate in the same competition later Wednesday. They will host France’s Vandoeuvre Nancy.
Sporting, nicknamed ‘the Lionesses,’ needs to overcome a 3-1 away deficit from the first leg played a week ago. They require a victory in Lisbon to advance further in the tournament.
