Futsal Leader Benfica Defeats Second-Place Porto Salvo 2-1, Extends Lead

Benfica solidified its commanding lead in Portugal’s national futsal championship after defeating second-placed Leões de Porto Salvo 2-1 in a key away match.

The victory gave reigning champions Benfica 30 points after 10 rounds of the league season. This extended their advantage over Leões de Porto Salvo to eight points.

The decisive goal came from an own goal by Leões de Porto Salvo defender Andriy Dzyalo in the 31st minute of the game. This secured the win for the league leaders.

Benfica had initially taken the lead through Carlos Monteiro after 10 minutes.

Rúben Carrilho leveled the score for the home side in the second half, 21 minutes into the match.

The game saw further drama with the expulsion of former Benfica and Sporting goalkeeper André Sousa a minute after the own goal.

Sporting Clube de Portugal remains in third place with 21 points.

Sporting has played one fewer game than Leões de Porto Salvo.

Sporting is scheduled to play Famalicão away on Wednesday evening.
