On Saturday evening there has been a must-see event for sports and especially football fans on ZDF for decades: “The current sports studio”. But unlike in the pre-streaming era, the “current” in the name of the show no longer applies.
On the one hand, because of the broadcasting rights for the games of the first Bundesliga, which are mainly held by pay-TV offers or private broadcasters: namely DAZN, Sky and Sat.1. The contracts with the DFL would definitely allow broadcasting before 11 p.m., the sports studio's current broadcast date.
On the other hand, with its programming for Saturday evening, ZDF is even to blame for the fact that “the current sports studio” is even less up-to-date than it should be because of the broadcast rights. Because ZDF records “the current sports studio” at 10:30 p.m. But on linear television in its traditional slot on ZDF, viewers can only see the sports program at 11 p.m. So not live, but half an hour later. The reason: ZDF usually shows two crime dramas on Saturday evenings, as the media portal DWDL writes. Only then will there be a place for the sports studio in the ZDF evening program.
ZDF is now finally reacting to this delayed broadcast and is putting the sports studio live online, at least in the media library, as the broadcaster has now announced. From 10.30 p.m. you can see “das aktuell sportstudio” live and in real time in the media library. It starts on January 27th, 2024, this Saturday.
