A new dating application is preparing to launch, founded by three entrepreneurs whose personal frustrations with existing platforms, including one investor who hired an assistant for his dating profiles, inspired their venture.
The app, named Eight, is Portuguese and seeks to replicate the social atmosphere of a bar within an online environment. Its creators intend to expand the service into the United States.
Miguel Moreira da Cruz, Afonso Simão, and Thomas Bjørn Momsen were all single when they developed the concept for Eight. All three held successful professional roles at the time.
Thomas Bjørn Momsen, a co-founder of the food waste application Too Good to Go and an experienced investor, experienced significant difficulties with current dating platforms. His struggles led to an unusual measure.
“We knew he had had several problems with dating apps,” Miguel Moreira da Cruz stated, referring to Momsen. “He even hired an assistant to go through the application pages for him.”
Before co-founding Eight, Miguel Moreira da Cruz worked in commercial operations from Dubai. Afonso Simão managed his own fitness clothing company. Momsen was active in various investment ventures.
