AVM has released FritzOS 7.80 for the first four Fritzbox models. These four Fritz boxes are now getting the new firmware:
Fritzbox 7590 AX in price comparison:
For Fritzbox 7530 AX and 7590 AX, i.e. for the two DSL models, the changelog lists these similarities:
- Simplified setup when connected to a fiber optic modem (ONT)
- Speed between LAN 1/WAN and the upstream device (e.g. fiber optic modem) is displayed on the overview page
- Many detail improvements and bug fixes
The two devices intended for fiber optic connections, the Fritzbox 5530 Fiber and 5590 Fiber, have this common changelog:
- Innovative fiber overview on the user interface
- Simplified setup of internet access to more and more internet providers, such as Deutsche Telekom, 1&1, Vodafone, O2 and others
- Push service “FRITZ!Box-Info” expanded to include detailed information about the fiber optic connection
- Many detail improvements and bug fixes
So you can see at first glance: fiber optic connections are the focus of the new firmware. This even applies to the 7530 AX and 7590 AX models, which are actually intended for DSL connections. These two Fritz boxes are intended to make connecting to a fiber optic modem easier. AVM is obviously taking into account the ever-increasing spread of fiber optic connections. Deutsche Telekom, for example, announced a few days ago that it had one million active fiber optic customers.
But FritzOS 7.80 doesn’t just bring improvements for fiber optic connections. If you take the Fritzbox 7590 AX as an example, you can see in the changelog that, in addition to numerous improvements in Internet access, there are also innovations and, above all, problem fixes in WLAN and telephony.
This is how you install FritzOS 7.80 on your Fritzbox
Your Fritzbox shows you in the web frontend at the top right whether your FritzOS version is current or whether there are updates for it. If there is a notice there about a new available update, you can install it with one click of the mouse. However, FritzOS 7.80 is not yet available for our Fritzbox:

FritzOS is up to date here.

If you click on “Current version”, a new page appears with detailed information about the installed FritzOS version.
However, it may be that the update to FritzOS 7.80 is not yet available even though you own one of the four Fritz boxes mentioned above. Because AVM writes on X/Twitter that it “can always take a short time until the update is signaled to everyone”.
