Friend of Victim in Punta del Este Accident Demands Justice

Caterine Gómez was a friend of the motorcyclist who was run over in Punta del Este. She attended the formalization hearing and reported that the young woman remains hospitalized in critical condition.

“Seeing him so calm after what he did is infuriating,” she said. “We thought he’d be sent to jail, but that’s not what happened.” Gómez believes the perpetrator should be behind bars. “He’s currently under house arrest, but he needs to serve time in prison,” she added.

The family is struggling to cope with the situation, trying to stay strong for the young woman. “They’re dealing with a lot, but it’s not easy,” Gómez explained. “The family recently received the ashes of their nearly eight-month-old unborn grandchild, which they had to identify and take photos of – it’s heartbreaking.” The medical report remains unchanged, with the young woman still on a ventilator.

Investigation and Legal Proceedings

The family’s lawyer, Andrés Bail, stated that they’ve achieved their first goal: the driver’s arrest and imposition of total house arrest. “Given the perpetrator has no prior record, house arrest is a suitable measure,” Bail said, as the investigation continues.

In this difficult time, the family awaits justice, seeking a sense of closure and accountability for the young woman’s tragic accident.
