Sporting Lisbon’s recent Portuguese Cup victory was “more mental than anything else,” according to defender Fresneda, who immediately shifted focus to the club’s upcoming Champions League challenge against Marseille.
Fresneda, 21, made these comments to RTP following Sporting’s 3-2 comeback win in extra time against Paços de Ferreira. He described the match as primarily a test of resolve.
“It was more mental than anything else,” Fresneda stated. He added that the team has time to “recover” and “prepare for the next game.”
That next game is a pivotal Champions League clash. Sporting is set to host French side Olympique Marseille on Wednesday.
The crucial European encounter will take place at 8:00 PM local time at Estádio José Alvalade.
