A French speleologist died after a collapse in a cave in Cantabria, in the north of Spain, announced Thursday evening the rescuers, who have not yet managed to reassemble his body.
“We unfortunately have to confirm the death of the French speleologist who was stuck in a Soba cave “, thus posted the emergency services of Cantabria on Twitter.
The recovery of the body, a complicated operation
It is now a question of “recovering the body, an operation which could take hours due to the instability of the area where it is”, they specify.
A little earlier in the afternoon, they had indicated that they had launched a rescue operation to try to find “a French speleologist exploring in a cave in Soba with two other people, also French”.
It was these two Frenchmen, who emerged unscathed, who were able to give the alert and contact the emergency services “after the roof of the cavity fell off”.
