French Rugby Players Arrested in Argentina Allegedly Rape Woman After Test Match
Details Emerge of Brutal Incident
Two French rugby players, aged 20 and 21, are accused of brutally beating and sexually assaulting a woman in Mendoza, Argentina, after a test match on Saturday night. The alleged assailants, Hugo Auradou and Oscar Jegou, were arrested in Buenos Aires on Monday and are scheduled to arrive in Mendoza on Wednesday to appear before the prosecutor.
Rape and Physical Violence
The woman, who remains unidentified, alleged that she was beaten across her body, including her face, head, and ribs, when she tried to leave the hotel room where she was held for four hours. "The main visible blow is a punch to one of her eyes, and several blows to the head, which is why CT scans have already been done; and the ribs, which are being investigated to see if there are any signs of fracture caused by the force," said the woman’s lawyer, Natacha Romano.
Legal proceedings
The alleged perpetrators face charges of rape and physical violence, as well as sexual abuse with carnal access. In Argentina, "carnal access" is equivalent to rape. The rugby players’ defense attorney, Rafael Cúneo, is already in Mendoza preparing for the case.
Next steps
The rugby players are expected to be questioned by police and undergo medical tests when they arrive in Mendoza later on Wednesday. The incident is reportedly being investigated by local authorities and an Argentine police delegation is scheduled to meet with the players.
