French policeman in custody accused of murder

A French policeman has been charged with manslaughter after a teenager was shot dead by police in the French capital, Paris. The accused has been taken into custody. News – BBC

Demonstrations were held across the country for the third day on Thursday against the death of the teenager. In the afternoon, a procession led by the teenager’s mother clashed with law enforcement officials.

Protesters were arrested in Lille and Marseille on the third night of protests. Police have already arrested at least 421 people from various cities in the ongoing protests. Most of them are between 14 and 18 years of age. 40 thousand police have been deployed to control the situation.

Pictures and videos circulating on social media on Thursday showed piles of garbage burning in several places. A fire was seen on the ground floor of a building in the town of Nanterre, where the teenager was killed.

Nahel, a 17-year-old boy, was shot dead by police at a checkpoint in Paris on Tuesday. According to the police, the teenager was shot when he ran away without obeying the instructions.

However, in a video of the incident circulating on social media, two police officers are seen trying to stop the car. One of them pointed a weapon at the driver through the car window. When the driver started driving, the police officer fired from close range. A few meters away, the car met with an accident. News agency AFP has verified the authenticity of the video.
