Launched last week by the Council of Europe’s Anti-Discrimination and Inclusion Program and co-funded by the European Union, a campaign celebrating diversity and “freedom in the hijab” has sparked a heated debate in France, leading the organization to withdraw it on Tuesday.
This campaign featured portraits of several young women, veiled over only one half of the image.
A message in English stated in particular: “beauty is in diversity as freedom is in hijab” (“beauty is in diversity as freedom is in the hijab”).
