Barely nine weeks have passed in the NFL and two coaches have already lost their jobs. Frank Reich will no longer be the coach of the Indianapolis Colts after the defeat they suffered on Sunday 26-3 against the New England Patriots, this was announced by franchise owner Jim Irsay.
The Colts they were 3-5-1 after nine weeks of the regular season. The surprise wins came against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Denver Broncos and the Jacksonville Jaguars, while the setbacks came against the New England Patriots, Washington Commanders, Tennessee Titans (twice), and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jeff Saturday, a six-time Pro Bowl and two-time first-team AP All-Pro center, was chosen to be the team’s interim coach. Saturday has been a consultant to the team, is in their Ring of Honor, and was also the head coach of the Hebron Christian Academy football team in Dacula, Georgia.
Frank Reich’s sins with the Colts
There were many factors that led to the dismissal of Reich during this season, this despite having an average defense, but an offense that did not work practically all this season. These are the sins that led to Reich’s departure.
1. Six quarterbacks in five seasons
Frank Reich found himself in a difficult situation upon his arrival in Indianapolis. Andrew Luck’s retirement is something that came as a surprise to the Colts’ infield. Jacoby Brissett, Phillip Rivers, Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan, and Sam Ehlinger they are some of those who paraded in that 41-35-1 mark that the head coach had.
2. Interceptions
This season, the Colts are tied as the team that has thrown the most intercepted passes in the regular season. They are tied for 10th with the Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots.
3. Very low point average
The Colts finished Week 9 averaging just 14.7 points per game, only the Pittsburgh Steelers have a lower scoring average. The Colts couldn’t get past 20 points in 6 of nine games and had exactly 20 points in two.
4. Party for the linebackers
Indianapolis is also the worst team in sacking quarterbacks. Between Matt Ryan and Sam Ehlinger they have been captured 35 times, surpassing Chicago Bears and Cincinnati Bengals, who are the ones that follow from Indianapolis.
5. Broken Ground Attack
After Jonathan Taylor was one of the best running backs last season with the Colts are currently the 28th running game in the leaguethis according to NFL statistics.
