Francisco Cabral and his doubles partner Lucas Miedler are set to face Karol Drzewiecki and Piotr Matuszewski in the Oeiras Open 4 final on Saturday. They secured their spot in the championship match after a grueling day that saw them play two matches back-to-back due to rain delays at the Jamor Tennis Complex.
Doubles Showdown
In their first match, Cabral and Miedler, the top seeds, defeated Gastão Elias and Tiago Pereira 6-1, 6-4. They then outlasted Marco Bortolotti and Victor Vlad Cornea 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals.
Their opponents, Drzewiecki and Matuszewski, the second seeds, edged out Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha and Sérgio Martos Gornes 7-6(7-2), 2-6, 10-2 in a thrilling semifinal.
Singles Semifinals
In the men’s singles, which saw all Portuguese players exit in the first round, the semifinals will feature Francisco Comezana against Carlos Taberner, and Roman Safiulin taking on Emer Moller.
Cabral reflected on his doubles success, saying, “It was two very different matches, but it ended up being a perfect day. We won both matches, which was our goal when we woke up.” He added, “The match against Tiago and Gastão was always going to be tense because they’re friends, and I knew they wouldn’t have much to lose. Luckily, we got off to a great start and didn’t let them get into the rhythm they wanted.”
