Franchy hits a three-run homer as the Yankees beat the Guardians

Franchy Cordero hit a three-run homer, Gerrit Cole didn’t let Cleveland’s good start discourage him and the New York Yankees routed the Guardians 11-2 on Tuesday night.

Cole (3-0) allowed two runs and three hits in the first inning before calming down and improving to 5-0 against Cleveland the past two seasons. The right-hander defeated the Guardians twice last year in the AL Division Series.

Cordero’s home run on New York’s five-run drive off Hunter Gaddis (0-1) in the third inning gave Cole a comfortable lead and helped the Yankees even the series after losing Game 1.

Anthony Rizzo drove in two runs for the Yankees, whose star Aaron Judge extended his on-base streak to 44 games, the second-longest in the majors since 2019. It’s the third-longest in the Yankees’ rich history since 1941.

For the Yankees, Venezuelans Gleyber Torres 4-1 with a run scored, Oswaldo Cabrera 4-1 with a run run and produced. The Dominican Cordero 4-1 with a run scored and three RBIs.

For the Guardians, Venezuelans Andrés Giménez 4-2 with a run scored, Gabriel Arias 3-0. Dominicans José Ramírez 4-2 with an RBI, Óscar González 3-0. Colombian Meibrys Viloria 1-0.
