France expels 30 Russian diplomats

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France announced this Monday the expulsion of "numerous" Russian diplomats for activities "contrary to our security interests".

Moscow has responded by revealing the figure of 30 diplomats –previously quoted by French media from unofficial sources– and has warned that "we will respond with dignity" to this decision, in the words of the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zajarova, reported by the Russian news agency TASS.

"France has decided tonight to expel numerous Russian personnel with diplomatic status assigned to France whose activities are contrary to our security interests"has published the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. "Our first responsibility is always to guarantee the safety of the French and Europeans"has added.

"This action is part of a European process"highlighted Paris, thus linking this measure to the decision announced by Germany to expel 40 Russian diplomats.
