The lights went out, quite literally, at the 63rd Open de Portugal. Play was officially called off at the Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf Resort due to the fading daylight. Four local golfers, Daniel Rodrigues, Vasco Alves, Tomás Bessa, and Pedro Figueiredo, currently find themselves in a nail-biting position, sitting inside the provisional cut line.
The day itself had already faced a tough start. Thick morning fog forced a delay of one hour and fifty-two minutes. This pushed back the schedule, meaning the crucial second round of eighteen holes simply couldn’t finish. This particular round is vital for the Challenge Tour event, as it selects the top 60 golfers, plus any tied scores, to move forward into the tournament’s final two rounds.
All four Portuguese hopefuls are holding strong. They have each managed to score three shots under par so far. This keeps them safely inside that provisional cut, a good sign as they await tomorrow’s restart. However, Pedro Figueiredo has one more challenging hole left to play from his second round. Meanwhile, up at the top of the leaderboard, Spain’s Quim Vidal seized the provisional lead. He’s an impressive ten strokes under par, but even Vidal isn’t out of the woods yet. He still has three more holes to complete his round when play resumes.
