The Croatian authorities announced this Wednesday the arrest of four people suspected of trafficking hundreds of kilos of cocaine valued at more than 7.5 million dollars, through a network with connections in Ecuador and the Dominican Republic.
The suspects hoped to acquire “a substantial material benefit with the provisioning, transportation, storage and resale of cocaine,” the court said. Ministry of the Interior in a statement.
Croatia is part of the so-called Balkan route, a Crucial transit route widely used by criminals for drug traffickingweapons and people to Western Europe.
In April, the Croatian public prosecutor charged eight people with having trafficked cocaine from South America to Croatia and other European Union countriesvalued at more than 16 million euros (17.7 million dollars at current exchange rates).
According to local media, the detainees appear to belong to the Croatian branch of the Balkan “cocaine ring” Linked to Serbian jailed drug trafficker Darko Saric.
