Fotis Ioannidis Joins Sporting CP from Panathinaikos: Pursuing Dream

Fotis Ioannidis leaves Panathinaikos and strengthens Sporting

A new chapter begins for Fotis Ioannidis. The 25-year-old striker said goodbye to Panathinaikos this Sunday. He has been in the capital since Saturday. Ioannidis even watched the big game between Sporting and FC Porto at Alvalade. His move to Sporting will become official this Monday.

Ioannidis shared a long, heartfelt message on his social media. He spoke of starting at Panathinaikos as a young boy. It was a dream come true for him. He later wore the captain’s armband with great honor. He felt true pride leading such a big club. He will always carry the memories with him. These include deep emotions, laughter, tough battles, and shared joy and sadness. He gave thanks to the club and its president. They trusted him for five years. He also thanked his teammates, who became like brothers. The staff and everyone who helped him daily received his gratitude.

He saved a special message for the fans. They supported him every step of the way. “We faced everything together!” he wrote. Ioannidis also spoke directly to the kids wearing his number 7 jersey. He told them it was an “HONOR” to see his name on their backs. His advice was clear: “NEVER stop dreaming.” He urged them to believe in themselves. They should ignore negativity like malice, hate, and doubt. This is how they will achieve their goals. Ioannidis declared he is leaving to chase his “big dream.” He chose not to say “goodbye.” Instead, he offered a big “thank you for everything we shared.” He added, “I’ll see you again because I believe!”

This move follows a completed deal between the clubs. Sporting paid 22 million euros, plus 3 million in bonuses. Ioannidis passed his final medical checks. The Greek forward is signing a five-year contract. His release clause is reportedly set at 80 million euros.
