Former soccer player Diego Armando Montiel died of meningitis

Diego Armando Montiel, former Atlético de Rafaela footballer, He died this Sunday at the age of 25 due to a picture of meningitis. The young man had been admitted to the intensive care room of the San Juan Bautista hospital in the town of Santo Tomé, where he was from.

The news was confirmed by the Santa Fe club through its Twitter account: “From Atlético de Rafaela we regret the death of Diego Armando Montiel, who defended our shirt in lower divisions and First Division. We wish a speedy resignation for his family and we raise our prayers for his eternal rest. RIP”.

Montiel had started his career in the youth teams of Atlético Rafaela and his debut was in 2013 in an Argentine Cup match against San Lorenzo. His first match in the local tournament was away against Boca Juniors and he converted his first goal to River Plate. That day he started and scored 1-0.

In the last two years, Montiel he had moved away from professional football. In Rafaela he played from 2012 to 2018, when he was given a loan to Juventud Unida de Gualeguaychú and a year later he put on the Bragado FC jacket.
