Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer is facing serious legal trouble after being charged with manslaughter. According to TMZ, Klinghoffer was driving a pickup truck in Alhambra, California in March when he allegedly hit a pedestrian who was crossing the street at a crosswalk.

The lawsuit against Klinghoffer states that the pedestrian, Israel Sanchez, 47, was dragged along the asphalt as a result of the impact with the musician’s vehicle and suffered blunt force trauma to the head. The injuries ultimately proved fatal.

A video of the incident shows a man crossing the street at the pedestrian crossing when suddenly he is hit from behind by a van. The video shows the driver stopping after hitting the person, then walking towards him before quickly returning to the vehicle.

The lawsuit accuses Klinghoffer of being distracted while driving and not braking before the collision. Klinghoffer’s lawyer, Andrew Brettler, stated that the incident was a “tragic accident” and that Klinghoffer was cooperating with the police investigation.
