Former Real Madrid and Everton footballer Royston Drenthe has been hospitalized after suffering a stroke last Friday, though his current team confirmed Sunday he is in stable condition.
The 38-year-old Dutch midfielder’s hospitalization was announced by FC Rebellen, a team of ex-players he recently joined. FC Rebellen conveyed the news via social media, stating Drenthe is “stable and in good hands.”
His family has requested “peace and privacy” during this period to support his recovery.
Drenthe officially retired from professional football in 2023, following a stint with Kozakken Boys in the Netherlands. He began his career with a promising trajectory.
He represented prominent clubs such as Feyenoord, Real Madrid, and Everton. Drenthe also earned caps as an international for the Netherlands. Following his early career highs, his professional path included playing for clubs in Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
