A former Premier League assistant referee is now serving a nine-year prison sentence for raping a man in 2009. Steven Wilson lured the victim to his apartment under the guise of attending a party. The victim was held captive for 3 to 4 hours before being released the next morning.
Detective’s Statement
The detective in charge expressed sympathy for the victim’s ordeal: “He was incredibly frightened during his time in the apartment and feared for his life, as he didn’t know Wilson or what he was capable of.”
The victim’s path to justice was long and arduous. He didn’t report the crime immediately. Instead, it was a newspaper article in 2021 that brought Wilson to justice. The victim recognized Wilson in a photo accompanying a story about other sex crimes.
Previous Conviction
Wilson’s history of criminal behavior dates back to 2011, when he was convicted of possessing child pornography and soliciting minors. He received a 15-month prison sentence. At the time, his real name was Steven Dorr. He was promoted to Premier League assistant referee in 2005. However, his career was cut short four years later after his crimes became public.
