A Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Court in Bhubaneswar sentenced a former postal official to four years of rigorous imprisonment on Friday for accepting bribes in exchange for employment promises. Radha Krushna Sahoo, a former Assistant Superintendent of Post Offices in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, was convicted of demanding illicit payments to facilitate jobs within the regional postal network.
Sahoo was additionally ordered to pay a fine of 100,000 rupees. The conviction concludes a legal process that began over a decade ago when the CBI registered the initial case on February 4, 2014. According to court records, Sahoo abused his official position while in charge of the Central Sub-Division in Baripada by demanding a 200,000 rupee bribe from a complainant.
In return for the payment, Sahoo promised to secure the individual’s employment as a Gramin Dak Sevak, Mail Deliverer, or Mail Carrier at the Debsole branch post office. When the complainant stated an inability to pay the full amount upfront, Sahoo agreed to an initial payment of 50,000 rupees, to be paid in installments.

The CBI organized a trap operation on February 6, 2014, at Sahoo’s rented residence in Baliganja. During the operation, investigators apprehended Sahoo while he was accepting a first installment of 20,000 rupees. Following the arrest, the CBI filed a formal chargesheet on June 25, 2014. The trial extended for 12 years before the court delivered its guilty verdict on March 13, 2026.
