Former NFL QB Jay Cutler Jailed in Tennessee for DUI Conviction

Former NFL star Jay Cutler has started his time behind bars. Reports surfaced Monday, September 29, that Cutler, who is 42, checked into a Tennessee jail. He’s expected to stay in Williamson County jail until Friday, October 3. This follows his sentencing for a DUI.

The story goes back to October 2024. News outlets, including Us Weekly, confirmed Cutler’s arrest in Tennessee. He faced charges for driving under the influence, having weapons while impaired, and breaking implied consent laws by not driving with due care.

Authorities said Cutler’s truck rear-ended another car. Police interviewed him at the crash site. They smelled a strong scent of alcohol on him. The other driver involved later sued Cutler. Officers also noted Cutler’s words were slurred and his eyes were bloodshot. He wouldn’t take sobriety tests on the spot. So, he went to a local hospital where police got a blood sample with a search warrant. Inside his vehicle, officers found two firearms, one of them loaded. Cutler spent a few hours in the Williamson County jail then got out after posting a $5,000 bond.

The Legal Outcome

This past August, the former quarterback pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor DUI charge. As part of a deal, prosecutors agreed to drop the three other charges against him. He received a sentence of four days in jail. On top of that, Cutler had to pay a $350 fine and attend classes for DUI offenders. His driver’s license was also taken away for a period. After he’s released, Cutler will be on probation for one year.

Days before his arrest, Cutler shared a video on Instagram showing a deer hunting trip in a nearby state. “Last night, I rushed to Kentucky,” he said in the clip, posted in October 2024. “The weather dipped a bit, temperature, pressure was up, and the deer I’ve been hunting had been showing up the last couple of nights. We thought, with the temperature drop, we might get out a little early.”

Kristin Cavallari’s Reaction

After news of Cutler’s arrest broke, his ex-wife, Kristin Cavallari, spoke out about the legal trouble. She talked about it on her podcast, “Let’s Be Honest.” “Quickly, just before I start with the episode, I wanted to tell you that this episode was recorded just before a very public incident happened last week with my ex-husband,” Cavallari explained. “Keep that in mind as you listen.”

Cavallari made it clear she wouldn’t say more about Cutler’s arrest. “I will not comment on what happened,” she added. “Of course, I wish Jay all the best and hope he gets the help he needs. But that’s all I’ll say about it publicly.”
