Auckland: Former New Zealand off-roader Chris Cairns doesn’t know if he’ll ever be able to walk again, but he considers himself lucky to be alive after undergoing life-threatening surgery. However, the lower part of his waist has become paralyzed. He underwent heart surgery three months ago, after which he had to undergo several more surgeries. Due to which he was put on a life support system and during this time his lower body was paralyzed due to a ‘stroke’. The 51-year-old former player tries to recover from paralysis.

Cairns is recovering in a specialized rehab center at Canberra University Hospital four months after surgery. Speaking to a private channel, he said: “I don’t know if I will ever be able to walk again or not, I have resolved myself with this situation.” I can live a full and happy life with the help of a wheelchair, but Adjusting will be a bit different. It’s like I’ve been through this my whole life. I don’t know anything about those eight and nine days when I had four ‘open heart surgeries’. Let us tell you that one of the best offroaders of its time, Cairns has played 62 Tests, 215 ODIs and two T20 Internationals for New Zealand.
