Former Miss USA Backs Miss Mexico in Pageant Row, Executive Apologizes

Former Miss USA Nia Sanchez has publicly supported Miss Mexico Fátima Bosch amidst a Miss Universe controversy. Sanchez praised Bosch for speaking out against a pageant executive. The incident reportedly involved a tense confrontation during a recent sash ceremony.

Bosch, 25, allegedly had an altercation with Thai pageant executive Nawat Itsaragrisil. Itsaragrisil reportedly called the model “hollow-headed.”

Bosch responded firmly to Itsaragrisil, stating, “We respect you, just as you should respect us.” She added, “I am here representing my country, and it’s not my fault that I have problems with my organization.”

Itsaragrisil, 60, then instructed Bosch to listen before arguing. Bosch subsequently left the venue, with several other contestants following in a show of solidarity.

Nia Sanchez, Miss USA 2014, discussed the situation on her podcast, “Hold My Crown,” on November 6. She expressed pride in Bosch for taking a stand.

Sanchez noted the difficulty for young contestants in such high-pressure environments. “Many of these women are in their twenties, and while they are very empowered, from my perspective, it can be a bit scary,” she said.

She continued, “I imagine if I were in her shoes, I’d know I have to speak up and say something, but I would also be nervous.”

Sanchez also clarified that Bosch’s actions were not intended as disrespect toward Thai people or culture. “It was simply that person she had the issue with,” Sanchez explained.

Former Miss California Meagan Tandy, a guest on Sanchez’s podcast, also commended Bosch. Tandy highlighted Bosch’s choice to speak directly to fans.

“You don’t know what story he would have told because the girls don’t speak Thai,” Tandy stated. She praised Bosch for seizing the opportunity to present her side of the story.

Itsaragrisil has since apologized for his remarks to Bosch. During a press conference on November 5, he said, “I am human. I didn’t want to do anything like that.”

Itsaragrisil attributed his behavior to intense pressure, explaining, “Because I am human, I believe you must understand that the pressure is a lot; sometimes I cannot control it.” He maintained he did not intend to harm anyone.
