Former French modeling agent linked to Epstein appears hanged in prison

Jean-Luc Brunel, a former French modeling agent who worked closely with the late US billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, was found hanged in his Paris jail cell on Friday, sources close to the case told AFP.

The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed that Brunel had been found dead in the Santé prison and said an investigation into the cause of death had been opened.

This man in his 70s was accused of rape by several former supermodels, something he always denied, and in June 2021 by "rape of a minor over 15 years of age". In December 2020 he had been charged with "rape of a minor over 15 years of age" and "sexual harassment".

He was also considered a witness to acts of "aggravated trafficking in human beings, to the detriment of minor victims for the purpose of sexual exploitation".

His death puts an end to public prosecution in this case, unless other people are implicated.

His name appeared in a US investigation into the case of Jeffrey Epstein, who was also found dead in his cell in August 2019.

Jean-Luc Brunel was arrested in December 2020 at Charles de Gaulle airport as he was about to fly to Dakar, and was jailed following his indictment.

Epstein, a billionaire financier, was accused in July 2019 in the United States of organizing a network of women whom he had sexually exploited between 2002 and 2005.
