Former champion Jhonny González says that fights with youtubers only generate morbidity

The Mexican Jhonny González, former featherweight champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), said on Tuesday that the fights between boxers and youtubers only generate morbidity and risk the career of the boxer.

"These fights are only for curiosity and publicity. It has been seen because there are the payments per event. I think it is a risk that they face boxers because, I repeat, the only thing it generates is morbid. They risk their physique and boxers their careers"said the boxer.

González, who at the age of 40 accumulates 11 defeats and 69 victories in his career, 56 on the fast track, spent two years without boxing due to problems with his old promoter company.

He returned to activity last December in a fight in which he beat his compatriot Sergio Puente.

The former world bantamweight champion of the World Boxing Organization alluded to the fight that could take place between the son of Mexican legend Julio César Chávez and youtuber Jake Paul.

"It would be a fight for morbid that can generate a lot of money because Chávez has always attracted the spotlight. But for his dad, because wherever he shows up, his dad will always accompany him and the people he wants to do is see the great Julius Caesar."he explained.

Jake Paul has more than 20,000,000 followers. He made his name in boxing when he defeated former UFC welterweight champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Tyron Woodley last December.

After his triumph, Paul challenged Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, but faced with the impossibility of a fight with the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world, he turned his attention to Chávez Junior.

If that fight is confirmed, according to Jhonny González, it could end Chávez Junior’s career.

"It is a good business that these youtubers are doing who want to face boxers, but if Chávez Jr. happens, I only hope that Julio prepares well because if he loses with Paul, he better retire from boxing".

The former WBC featherweight champion guaranteed that, far from being finished, he feels that with one more fight he will be ready to fight again for a world championship.

"My morale returned with victory. I already have offers for more demanding fights. Today I am ready to face any champion of the organism that is in super feather", he pointed out.
