For its 10th anniversary, Messenger offers new features

From polls to share, birthday songs or even augmented reality effects, Facebook Messenger is celebrating its 10th anniversary this month and has just incorporated several new features.

While the application of the social network Facebook is currently testing in the United States the possibility of making voice and video calls without going through Messenger, messaging has not said its last word and is not yet on the verge of disappearing. Evidenced by this 10th anniversary which is full of features. Through a free update on iOS and Android, the application notably allows users to celebrate the birthdays of their loved ones with multiple effects. It is thus possible to create a mini-video with augmented reality effects in the background. Festive stickers have also been added. In addition, soundmojis now allow you to send a little birthday song.

Surveys to liven up conversations

At the same time, the 10th anniversary of Messenger is an opportunity to launch unprecedented interactions between users. Like the surveys offered on Twitter, Messenger hosts an activatable window in order to easily initiate small surveys with its contacts. It is thus possible to question the members of a Messenger group on a question such as: “Who is most likely to …” and to offer various answers so that they select the one that corresponds to them. Enough to liven up conversations and engage users a little more. This “Poll” option is available by pressing the + button on the application, which allows you to add GIFs in particular.

In the United States, several options are also being tested on Messenger. One of them invites you to associate a visual effect (applause, fireworks, rain of hearts …) when certain words are written during a conversation. The idea is to animate it by making it more fun. Finally, it is possible to send a friend on Messenger a virtual gift which is a small amount of money that he can spend via Facebook Pay. These last two features are currently being tested with American users and could be deployed in Europe in the coming months.
