Flamengo striker Pedro will miss the Copa Libertadores final against rival Palmeiras due to a new left leg injury, further complicating the club’s bid for a continental and domestic double.
The Brazilian international forward sustained a femoral muscle injury in his left leg during a team training session, the club confirmed today.
This new setback means Pedro will be sidelined for at least one month.
He was already recovering from a right arm fracture suffered over a month ago during the semi-final round against Racing.
Medical staff had hoped to see him return for the prestigious final, but an MRI scan confirmed the severity of the latest injury.
The absence impacts Flamengo’s chances in the Copa Libertadores final, scheduled for November 29 at the Monumental Stadium in Lima, Peru.
He will also miss the decisive final matches of the Brazilian championship.
Flamengo currently leads the domestic league with 71 points, just three points ahead of second-place Palmeiras, with five games remaining.
Both teams are vying for the championship title, adding significant weight to Pedro’s injury just weeks before the key matchups.
Palmeiras is led by Portuguese coach Abel Ferreira.
