Flamengo dominated their first match in the Club World Cup, beating Espérance de Tunis 2-0. Goals from Giorgian de Arrascaeta and Luis Araújo sealed the win. The Brazilian team controlled the game, while Espérance had some chances but couldn’t capitalize.
Flamengo started strong with Pedro up front, supported by Gerson, Luis Araújo, and Arrascaeta. Erick Pulgar and Jorginho formed a solid midfield duo. Espérance, on the other hand, had Rodrigo Rodríguez as their main striker, with Yan Sasse, Chiheb Jebali, and Youssef Belaïli behind him. Khalil Guennichi and Onuche Ogbelu played defensive midfield.
The game’s first chance came when Léo Ortiz headed a corner kick, but it lacked direction. Soon after, Flamengo scored. Varela crossed from the right, Luis Araújo deflected it to De Arrascaeta, who scored from near the penalty spot. Flamengo kept pushing, but their attacks lacked real danger.
De Arrascaeta had another chance, but his powerful shot was blocked by a defender. Espérance focused on defense in the first half, not creating any real scoring opportunities. They didn’t even manage a goal attempt.
The second half saw Espérance come out more aggressively. Ben Hammouda had their first chance with a long shot, but the goalkeeper saved it. Flamengo quickly regained control, with Pedro shooting and Bechir Ben Saïd making an incredible save. De Arrascaeta then shot wide.
Espérance organized a dangerous counterattack, ending with Belaïli shooting over the bar. Belaïli had another chance, speeding past defenders and shooting low, but Agustín Rossi made a brilliant save to prevent the equalizer.
Just when it seemed like Espérance might tie, Flamengo scored again. Jorginho found Luis Araújo in a good position, and he scored with a fantastic cross-shot. Ayrton Lucas then made a great run and shot, but it went wide.
Espérance had one last chance to reduce the deficit, but Belaïli shot wide again. In the end, Flamengo won, earning their first three points and tying Chelsea at the top of the standings. Espérance remains point-less.
