Five Colombians confirmed for the Occitania Route

New challenge for Colombians in European cycling. Starting this Thursday, June 15, and until Sunday, June 18, a new edition of the Ruta de Occitanie will take place, a stage race that has been run in the south of France since 1977 and there will be five representatives from our country.

The organization of the competition published the list of 126 participants divided into 18 teams. The Movistar Team will have Iván Ramiro Sosa and Einer Rubio on their payroll, being the squad with the most cyclists in our country. The Colombian representation is completed by Brandon Rivera with Ineos Grenadiers, Diego Camargo with EF Education EasyPost and Jhojan García with Caja Rural.

Four of them come from participating in the CIC Mont Ventoux, one day race designed for climbers which was won by Lenny Martínez and in which there were two Colombians in the top 10: Sosa sixth and Camargo ninth. Rubio arrived in 25th place and García in 59.

For his part, Rivera comes from participating in the Tour de Romandie, which did not finish, and his best result of the season was fifth place in the Vuelta a San Juan at the end of January.

Colombia is looking for its fifth title on the Ruta de Occitania, which was won by Álvaro Mejía in 1994. Then it was the turn of Nairo Quintana, who was established in the 2012 and 2016 editions. The last Colombian to be champion of this race was Egan Bernal in 2020.
