The Italian region of Tuscany has been hit with a severe spell of bad weather lately, but that won’t dampen the spirits of football fans, as the highly anticipated Fiorentina-Juventus match is set to take place this Sunday. Despite the region being under a red alert, which has since been downgraded to orange, the game is expected to go ahead as planned. On Saturday, the surroundings of the Artemio Franchi stadium, as well as Fiorentina’s training center, the Viola Park, were flooded, but that hasn’t seemed to affect the plans for the big match.
As the situation at Viola Park was shared on social media, with images showing the extent of the flooding, it’s clear that the weather has had a significant impact on the region. However, according to Sara Funaro, the president of the Florence City Council, all cultural activities are set to resume, and schools are expected to reopen on Monday. “There’s no reason to call off the game,” she stated on Saturday. “The weather alert has been downgraded from red to orange, and by Sunday, it’s expected to be yellow.”
Funaro explained that the water level of the Arno river is receding, and other critical situations are being resolved. While some restrictions will still be in place – markets will be closed until 2 pm on Sunday, and parks, gardens, and green areas will remain closed until Monday evening – all other activities, including schools, museums, and libraries, will return to normal. “Everything is getting back to normal,” she emphasized. With the all-clear given for the match to proceed, fans can look forward to an exciting showdown between Fiorentina and Juventus, and the city of Florence can start to get back on its feet after the recent bad weather.
