The final lap is approaching for the MotoE World Championship. After seven seasons of racing with electric motorcycles, the series will come to an end. This means the current season will be its last. There will be no MotoE competition in 2026.
This significant decision came from the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) and Dorna. Dorna is the company that also manages MotoGP. Both organizations had hoped the electric bike series would grab more public attention. Unfortunately, it simply didn’t spark the interest they expected.
FIM President Jorge Viegas officially shared this news last Thursday. His statement appeared on the MotoGP website. Viegas made it clear, saying, “Today we announce the suspension of the MotoE World Championship from the end of this season.”
Viegas explained that they put in a lot of effort to promote this new and creative racing category. However, he admitted that they couldn’t meet their goals. He even pointed out that the broader electric motorcycle industry has faced similar hurdles. Despite the outcome, Viegas praised the action on the track. He mentioned, “The races have been fantastic.” He also took a moment to thank “all the riders who competed in MotoE, as well as Dorna.” Looking ahead, Viegas emphasized a commitment to “innovations and new technologies.” It seems the path for electric racing will now head in a different direction.
