Farhan Akhtar and Raashii Khanna’s new film, ‘120 Bahadur,’ is preparing for its theatrical release. The war-drama is based on the historic Battle of Rezang La, a pivotal moment in the 1962 India-China War. The film’s release coincides with the 63rd anniversary of the battle, which occurred on November 18, 1962.
The film details the valor of 120 Indian soldiers from the 13 Kumaon Regiment. They were led by Major Shaitan Singh Bhati in Ladakh. This small Indian contingent faced over 5,000 Chinese soldiers.
Major Bhati’s troops, many of whom were from Rajasthan and Haryana, had limited experience fighting in snowy conditions. Despite the harsh climate and dwindling ammunition, they fiercely resisted the Chinese advance. Indian reports claim 1,300 Chinese soldiers were killed during the battle. China reported 500 casualties, its largest loss during the 1962 conflict.
The engagement resulted in heavy losses for the Indian side, with 114 of the 120 soldiers martyred. Most of the regiment’s soldiers were from the Ahir (Yadav) community. Their courage in the face of overwhelming odds is a significant part of India’s military history.
‘120 Bahadur’ is directed by Rajneesh Ghai. Farhan Akhtar portrays Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, while Raashii Khanna plays his wife, Shagun Kanwar. The film’s songs feature lyrics written by Javed Akhtar.
Paid previews for ‘120 Bahadur’ have already taken place. The film is officially set to premiere in theaters on November 21. Its trailer received a positive reception from audiences.
