A 29-year-old man from the Philippines narrowly escaped death after being attacked by a crocodile at a zoo in Zamboanga Sibugay province.
A Reckless Decision
The man, identified as a tourist, climbed over a fence and into the crocodile enclosure at the zoo to take a selfie. He sat near a female crocodile named Laley, thinking it was a statue.
The Attack
The crocodile suddenly attacked, biting his arm and refusing to let go. It then dragged him underwater, biting his thigh and rolling him around multiple times.
The attack lasted about 30 minutes before a zoo handler intervened, throwing a concrete block at the crocodile’s head to distract it.
Aftermath
The man suffered severe injuries, including deep wounds on his arm and thigh. He received over 50 stitches at the hospital.
The victim later stated he thought the crocodile was a statue and acknowledged his actions were reckless and put others at risk.
The incident has raised concerns about visitor safety at the zoo.
