Portuguese club Chaves is preparing to rebound from its first league defeat, with coach Filipe Martins expressing confidence in his team’s focus and bolstered squad options ahead of a crucial match against promotion rival U. Leiria.
Martins acknowledged the recent loss in Viseu was difficult for the team but praised the players’ strong desire to recover during the week.
“It’s obvious that the way this first defeat appeared hurt us, but we have to understand that we must remain focused on our path and believe in our process,” Martins stated. He added that the team has a strategy to secure three points against U. Leiria.
The coach highlighted the strategic advantage of having more midfield options now. This includes new signing Bicoro and the return of João Teixeira to full fitness.
Martins emphasized that while excuses are not made, “having everyone available will make us stronger and better prepared to win games.”
Chaves lost its invincibility in Portugal’s Liga Portugal Meu Super when they were defeated in Viseu.
Their upcoming opponent, U. Leiria, is also considered a strong contender for promotion. U. Leiria enters the match following a morale-boosting victory.
The two clubs are scheduled to face each other on Monday at 8 p.m. local time.
