Filipa Marracho, Tiago Carapinha 35th in Mixed Pistol at Shooting Worlds

Indian shooter Aishwary Tomar equaled a world record in a qualification round at the ongoing World Shooting Championships in Cairo, Egypt.

Tomar scored 597 points in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions qualification, matching the highest score ever achieved in this phase of the competition. His performance highlighted a day of intense competition.

In the same 50m Rifle 3 Positions event, Portugal’s Pedro Afonso finished 32nd with 586 points. He had advanced past Monday’s elimination round but missed qualifying for the eight-best final by four points.

Earlier in the championships, Portuguese mixed teams also competed in the 10m Air Pistol event. Filipa Marracho and Tiago Carapinha finished 35th in the qualification round.

The duo accumulated a total of 572 points across three rounds, with each scoring 286 points. Marracho was noted for hitting the center of the target six times.

Another Portuguese pair, Joana Castelão and Fernando Colaço Ferreira, placed 60th. They achieved a combined score of 556 points, with Castelão scoring 281 points compared to Ferreira’s 275.

Medals in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event will be decided by four Asian duos. India and China are set to compete for the gold medal.

Iran and South Korea will face off for the bronze medal in the same event, underscoring strong Asian performances across the championships.
